WHY
?

Sure,
you are fans of Brad Dourif,
but Why do you like him?
- because of his eyes, his feet, his hair .........
list not exhaustive thus what is that it is physical
or magnetic or .....
- because of his voice, the way he plays.
- because of the character whom he plays.
- because of his way to be, far away from cameras
- Because you like the lost causes?( I 'm kidding,
but openly he deserved better. )
That does not sound serious and formulated like
it's not , but please, try to think about it:
what attracts you at first, and what makes that
this attraction continues.

encanta encontrarme y descubrir tan buenos actores

As I read through I had to agree with every single
feeling you embodied into your words.
And as you seem to be a person with the same feelings
(at least about Brad) as me,
I would like to tell you about my discovering of
this great actor and man.
Firstly
I saw (as a part of my movie education) the movie
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest.
I am from Czech Republic, so I saw this movie mainly
because of its director (czech citizen).
I appreciated the great acting of Jack Nicholson,
but most of all my attention was drawn to the shy,
blue-eyed, stammering boy.......
I felt deep pity because of his fate and at the
same time huge admiration to the actor, who could
do this character so well....
Then
I realized it was Brad.... and than I played the
Game.... Myst III:Exile.
I liked the first game and I love this one even
more.
I love the scenery, which is wonderful and at the
same time frightening,
I love the music, which I still hear in my head,
but most of all I am addressed by the story of Saavedro.
I was glued to the monitor, when he was there.
The depth with which he expresses sadness, wrath,
despair and hope....
And
from then on I have kept searching for those horrible
films,
which I would have otherwise never watched, and
every time I see him acting, I am amazed.
I asked myself why I like him so much and I think
it is because he is able to express
the dark side of our soul with such intensity, he
shows that even a coward or mass killer is human,
that evil is present in every single person and
we have to deal with it according to our abilitties.
For example Saavedro (this role is exceptional,
because he acts only for you and talks to you, which
is really great)
is full of anger and wrath, he would not hesitate
to kill you if he could
(and at frist he actually killed me), but at the
same time,
there is something sad and innocent in his look,
maybe the hope,
that not all dreams are lost in this world and his
final Good bye is really worth playing
the game.
Andrea

à tenter d'exprimer, disons d'expulser,
Mr
part d'enfance

What
attracted me to Brad? At first an appeal to the
darkness in me. I
found myself fascinated and aroused by the characters
he played,
particularly Deputy Pell Gediman and Lon Sudor.
He helped to make that
darkness more human. Then I began to read interviews
and was impressed by
his ability to empathise with characters and utilise
aspects of himself but
in a way that I think is very healthy. He appeals
to the more spiritual
side, outside the everyday yet rooted in the real
world.
Also,
his appearance fascinated me. I do not think of
him as handsome,
although he is such a chameleon that in some shots
he is very good looking.
I find him stunning, hypnotic, fascinating - again
the Gediman look
fascinates me and lately Grima. He is far to enticing
to be something as
narrow as handsome. And of course the eyes, oh those
wonderful eyes! Still
having trouble with than moustache and adore hime
with long hair!
Oh
yes, I am a sucker for underdogs!!!
Chris

What
attracts me to Brad is that he is so mysterious. It
is a chore
to dig up anything about him online or in books. I
also like him
because barely anyone else does. No one knows who
he really is, so I
get to introduce his character to many people. Like
I have said so
many times before, the drop dead gorgeous looks just
happen to come
with the package. Though, when it comes to looks,
yes. He is
beautiful, and has the bluest eyes I have ever seen(you
can tell a
lot through someone's eyes) Brad's face has a certain
perfection
that is unmatched by anyone I have ever seen. He also
has very nice
hands. When it comes to personality, I only know him
through
interviews, not ever really getting to know the whole
Brad(this adds
to the aformentioned 'mysteriousness') Now, his versatility
as an
actor is probably the best in the world(....no bias
at all...:o) )
His wide range of emotions and his way of conveying
them to the die
hard fan and the average viewer continually amazes
me, and probably
will for the rest of my life.
ok, i've written a book now, and am usually not this
expressive or
emotional. :o)
Katherine
- Emotion and expression, it is really what he provokes
You
are right, he does provoke emotion and expression.
I see this in
your art, and I guess in my words now.

*nods* I feel the same way about him, actually. I
myself have actually
written a few poems that he/his portrayal as certain
characters have
inspired. Since I'm still 'fixing' them, I haven't
let anyone read them.
Alexandra

I,
too, feel the same. Sometimes he says things that
I can relate to so much it is eerie.
And yes, I would like to read your poems. *points
to
self* Poetic soul over here.
Lee

Well, the first thing I noticed ever was his eye.
Then his scarily
good portrait of Billys vulnerability. Next how scarily
good he is a
being "creepy" in films, and next how honest
he is about taking
lesser roles to "feed my family", ie. accepting
bad scripts to pay
the bills, which I'm sure other actors do too, but
won't admit how
acting is a job.....I like his unassuming appearance
during
interviews, and how the many quotes displayed in various
places make
him seem like a multi-facetted person.
-s

I like him for all of these reasons and others I am
not sure I can explain. I just feel that I understand
him somehow. Sometimes, when I read things he has
said it is like he has climbed into my head or I have
climbed into his. Don't know if this makes sense.
I
don't know. I am just drawn to him.
Lee

The
reason I'm attracted to him is because of his INTENSITY
:o) and the way
he plays his characters. I really feel like I can
relate in some way to
each of the roles he's played (at least the one's
I've seen) . . . maybe I
should be worried about this *lol* . . . Also, after
reading some of the
quotes, I can relate to him (as himself) in many ways.
What he said about
his personality and feelings during his childhood/high
school years exactly
describes my own personality/feelings during that
time. I also like him
because there are so many "facets" to him,
both as himself and in his
characters. Watching him is like looking at an abstract
painting and
seeing something different every time :o)
.
. . there . . . have I rambled enough? *lol*
Carissa

oh,
this is a great question...why do I like brad!?
well,
I guess I was originally drawn to him when I saw "one
flew over
the cuckoo's nest' when I was about 10 years old because
I thought he
was 'cute'...as time went on, I sort of lost track
of him, having
never caught his name back when I was 10, but he was
still there in
other ways. by this I mean, I was still very much
interested in him
as a result of other movies that he would pop up in,
but never made
the connection to 'cuckoo's nest' until, well, really
not until a
month ago, but the reason why I liked him before my
rediscovery is
because he just seemed like such a cool guy! that
may sound strange,
but he has been in my cool books for ages! he is very
talented, and
completely unusual! then I saw 'nightwatch', and although
he has a
very small part in the movie, he was just incredible!
he didn't
treat it as a small part in a thriller/horror flick,
he treated it as
a part that deserved to be acted well, and he went
above and beyond
that! it was this movie that originally turned me
onto him as being
more than just a cool guy...his intense eyes and amazing
smile and
that absolute insanity that seemed to be contained
within! he is
miles from being the cliche, but that is a compliment!
at that piont
he stayed with me a little more than before, and I
was always amused
and happy to see him pop up in movies here and there,
always giving
his all to the performance, but it wasn't until I
saw LOTR the two
towers that I was completely floored! brad was amazing
as
wormtoungue and i instantly felt myself longing to
know more about
him and to see more of his movies and tv appearances,
but to look at
them more closely....he has blown my mind away with
his talent that
most of the world doesn't seem to see! he is attractive,
but seems,
having never met the man, very down to earth! he is
an odd character
that can bring out such intense emotion in his performances,
and this
always pulls emotions out of me!
in
short, yes,I think he is attractive, those eyes and
smile are
beyond words, really, though not many people can see
or understand
this. It is also his acting ability that is beyond
belief, yet
somehow remains unrecognized by the majority, and
it is the fact
that, in interviews and from what i've heard in fan
encounters, that
he seems like such a genuine and all around down to
earth guy...i
read the interviews and i can even at times see a
bit of my own
insanity in him and it, he, in some bizarre way, makes
me feel better
about who i am as an individual, and more comfortable
in my skin! i
have never been a 'fan' of anyone else that has made
me feel this
way, maybe it sounds insane, but to me it's just...beyond
words!
i'm
babbling, but i hope this has helped in some way!

For
me, my very first experience watching Brad was Child's
Play and I
was really impressed with how scary he was in the
role. His voice
and also his eyes made a very big impression on me.
Now that I have
seen several more of his movies, I've seen just how
big a range he
has, and that, I suppose, attracts me to him and his
roles. But of
course the number one thing is, and a lot of people
here share the
same seniment, his eyes. They always look like there
is something
hiding behind them, but you're not sure what. Especially
with the
role of Wormtongue, you just don't know what pain
and agony that is
underneath that "evil" exterior.
Mousie

See?
This is more or less what I was saying or trying
to anyway. I'm not that great at expressing myself
sometimes.
